Spokane Engagement-Katherine & Pascal

Love story from the bride:

We met in September 2005 in the church we will be married in, St. Joseph in Colbert. Pascal had been in the US for about a month on a year-long high school exchange program. His host family encouraged him to attend the church’s youth group meeting, where we were introduced by a mutual friend. Communication via email and Myspace ensued, and after a few days Pascal asked if I wanted to do something with him that weekend. Pascal made sure to point out that his motivation for asking me to hang out was NOT because I had a car and could drive him around (little did he know that thanks to a previous ticket, I was not allowed to drive anyone under 18 according to Washington law). Unfortunately, I had to decline his invitation, as I was out of town that weekend. However, the next week, he wrote me again, this time inviting me to his high school’s Homecoming dance. I think we were both pretty unsure whether this was a date or not, but in retrospect we would both say this was where our romance began, though, in typical high school manner, it took a few weeks for things to become “official.”

We dated for the rest of my senior year of high school, and owe a huge debt to my maid of honor, Sarah Cappello, for being our chauffeur the entire time. Pascal returned to Germany in the summer of 2006 and we decided, either foolishly or romantically, we’re still not sure which, to try a long-distance relationship. I spent the next four years at Washington University in St. Louis, excluding a semester abroad in Germany, and we did manage to stay together, though not without some degree of trials and tribulations. Finally, after graduating in 2010 I moved to Germany to work as an English language teacher and have been here ever since.

After so many years together, the subject of marriage had come up several times, but we always wanted to wait until we were more settled. Finally, the time was right, and we picked out a ring, complete with a diamond handed down to me from my mom. And on a trip to Holland in May 2012 to visit the coast and the tulip gardens, Pascal proposed. Now, after more than 7 years together, we are anxiously awaiting the big day!

  1. My favorite photos are the 3rd and 10th. The lighting is fantastic. It gives you two a soft appeal. I also like how the looks you regularly give pascal are captured in these photos. With the love story you two have, the leather jackets are perfect. It almost screams rebels, but you two fought against the odds and the non believers and found your own path together. Beautiful photos.
