Our wedding was a testament to all of the love and support the people around us provide us with, we are so immensely thankful.

A special thank you to my momma, Kelly Moore. Mom, there are no words to depict how thankful I am not just for your amazing efforts toward this day, but to the woman I am because of who you are. You have been there to encourage Aaron and I from the moment he was just the first boy to show up on our front porch, to creating the most beautiful day for us to start the rest of our lives together. I am in awe of the woman God entrusted my life to. Thank you for everything you do for your kids, we love you so very much!

Our story..
Aaron and I are your semi-typical high school musical sweethearts, without the cool hair and choreographed dance moves. When we met, I was 15 he was 17 and we were the most competitive students in our PE class at University High School. I immediately sought  him as someone to test my athletic prowess while he was subtly trying to catch my eye from across our attendance spots (and breaking my finger in a basketball game during the process). That spring semester ended with an epic water fight and no exchange of phone numbers.

Summer went by and we didn’t see each other until we ended up both being “Crimson Crew Leaders” at orientation for the incoming freshman class. Before orientation the leaders were required to attend a weekend retreat. It was there, during a rainy pick up soccer game, that I realized that the handsome, athletic senior boy on the other team was the same boy in my PE class just a few months earlier.

It wasn’t until the long awaited, stressful homecoming season and a few hallway encounters later that it seemed Aaron could be the first boy I would maybe, possibly, if I had to, go to the dance with. But it wasn’t until he showed up unexpectedly at my house with a rose in his hand, that I just had to comply with the social norms of “dating” – a concept I was not too fond of. Little by little, his charismatic nature, goofy laugh, and servant’s heart showed me the beauty of what a blessing love can be.

The dance was on October 2nd 2009 and on October 17th after a Spokane Chief’s victory, he became the first (and only) boy I would refer to as “boyfriend” and asked if he could accompany my family and I to church the next day. From Needtobreathe concerts, to soccer games, to long college study sessions,  the rest of our story has been one of a constant journey of growth, love, trust and commitment to one another and our relationships with God.

My best friend asked me to be his wife on July 6, 2013 and on July 18, 2014 I made a promise to be with him for the rest of my life, what a beautiful life it is turning out to be!

Amy and Jodi defied many odds and overcame numerous obstacles to finally have their dream wedding take place on Saturday, July 5th, 2014. Surrounded by family and friends, who travelled from all over North America, they exchanged their own vows on a beautiful cliff in Riverside State Park.

Amy and Jodi met on Match.com nearly 4 years ago, almost accidentially. Amy, living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and Jodi, living in Spokane, Washington, USA, had fate bring them together in a 24 hour window of opportunity. After a month of talking on the phone and Skype, they finally met in person on September 24th, 2010 in Seattle, WA – the halfway point. Jodi knew the moment she saw Amy step off the ferry that she was the one for her. Amy, who thought Jodi was out of her league, wondered about how, logistically, the relationship could work, being from two different countries, and immigration laws that discriminated against same-sex partnerships in the US at the time.

Over the next year and a half, Amy travelled down to Spokane to visit Jodi, and her two lovely children, every 5 or 6 weeks. Every time she left, they really didn’t know when they would see each other again. During this time, Amy requested a work transfer to their Washington State office, and while they waited 9 months for a dual intent work visa to be approved, they kept their relationship strong with creative methods of communication. From writing long letters, sending small tokens, reading books to the kids over the phone, to Skype cooking and dinners together, Amy and Jodi built a foundation during a time when most would have thrown in the towel. It was also during this time that Jodi’s mother was suddenly diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer at a very young age. Not being able to travel while her visa petition was under review, Amy struggled to watch Jodi lose her mother from afar. After a courageous battle, Amy and Jodi find peace knowing that “nanny” thought the visa was taking too long, and had to “get up there” to get things rolling. Sure enough, two weeks after her passing the visa was approved and Amy moved to Spokane, WA to finally be with Jodi and the kids.

Amy, Jodi and the kids continued to build a strong foundation, falling even more in love with the opportunity to function as a normal family would under a single roof. Over the next two years, they witnessed a dramatic shift in policies that finally gave them hope that they could live together forever – as a family, as Washington State passed same-sex marriage, and the Defense of Marriage Act was defeated. Their wedding was more than a marriage, it was a celebration that love wins.

Amy and Jodi are so grateful to all their wedding vendors, who accepted them for who they are; two human beings in love. Their wedding experience in Spokane, WA was nothing short of incredible!
