Maureen & Scott Engaged!!

Scott & I would both like to sincerely thank Al Gore for “inventing the internet,” since the two of us met through online dating. It was a perfect time in our lives as I had grown weary of bad first dates, and Scott had become sick of wading through the plethora of girls that were not exactly his style (to put it kindly). I messaged him first, and we chatted a bit before setting up a first date at a cool local brewery. Despite the fact that he lived an hour away, Scott was on time & I was a good 15-20 minutes late, rolling in with an apology & a smile; it’s a good thing he thought I was cute and kept me around. Not wanting the date to end, we got some coffee and took a walk along the river. We laughed together as the local band playing music outside changed their tunes from normal to screamo as the night wore on and all the families went home. We sat & talked for hours that night and haven’t stopped since. I sent him home with a kiss and from then on, we have been inseparable.

The months we spent dating long-distance and spending every waking minute together on weekends passed in a blur and eventually Scott moved in with me and we bought an adorable little corgi named Rex. I am an artist at heart and am emotional and totally free-spirited. Scott balances me by being level-headed, laid-back and logical. The best analogy I’ve ever heard for a relationship came from a friend of a friend who is also an artist. He told me that he’s a balloon, flying wild and free while his wife grounds him by holding onto his string. “All these years,” he said “and she just keeps holding on. For my sake, I hope she never lets go!” I’m so glad Scott & I found each other. The constant laughter echoing throughout the rooms of our home is pure affirmation that this is the man I’m meant to build a life with. For my part, I hope he’s still holding onto my balloon string for many, many, many years to come.
