How we got engaged:
Katie and I had recently selected a house to buy on 13th avenue across the street from cliff park on the south hill. We had made an offer and they had accepted but the closing date was still a month away. So the house was not technically ours yet. But no hitches were anticipated.
To start our new life together, I wanted to propose to Katie on the front porch of the house on Sunday, March 9, 2014 when she got back in town from a trip.
I surprised her with a nice bottle of champagne that morning and after we drank it (I was nervous since I, after all, was about to ask the coolest woman to marry me) we walked over to the house. I couldn’t convince Katie to go onto the front porch with me at all! She told me it was bad luck and didn’t want to get the cops called on us. I figured if she had another glass of champagne that I could convince her. So we had some more champagne.
Katie still refused (surprisingly) to go on to the property (the owners no longer lived there – it was vacant). At this point Katie’s mom called all excited because she knew what was going to happen that day – but it hadn’t happened yet….
Katie’s response to her moms phone call: “what was she so happy about.”
At this point – all of my attempts thwarted – I walked her over to cliff park and surprised her by getting on my knee. Her response before the question was asked: “This is a really mean joke to play on someone!”
Once I convinced her I was serious, she said “yes!” And we drank more champagne….
