Tami & Curtis at Trezzi Farm & Winery

When people ask me how Curtis and I met, I simply say “he works for my dad”. Then follows a doomful “oh.” – like they completely understand that you’re not supposed to date one of your dad’s employees.

We began like most other relationships, as just friends. We’d exchange brief hellos that led to hour long conversations when we were supposed to be working. So after talking at work for many months and unknowingly turning down multiple dates, Curtis got the courage to bluntly ask me out to dinner. Needless to say, the date went great. So great that I told him we shouldn’t see each other any more. He was, after all, my dad’s employee and that’s just asking for trouble…but there was just something about him that kept pulling me back in.

So we dated for a few months, broke the news to my dad that I had been seeing one of his guys, and the rest is history! Curtis is truly the best part of my life and I can’t wait to start our lives together.

Jennifer & Ron Engaged!!

Ron and I met about 5 years ago. We instantly had a connection! We started out as workout buddies and enjoyed going to the YMCA together and going on long runs on the centennial trail.

We became a couple in no time and I knew in my heart he was the one for me! He is handsome, intelligent, a great dad to his boys and has a great sense of humor! He is my rock, my best friend and my everything! I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams!

Maureen & Scott at Bing Theater & Knitting Factory

Family has always been important to Scott and me; aside from it being the first day of summer, we picked the date of June 21st for our big day so that we could share my parents’ joy as they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. My dad got to spend Fathers’ Day with both of his daughters for the first time in years! Scott’s brother was his best man and my sister did double duty as our officiant and as a bridesmaid. My engagement ring is a combination of our families using diamonds from my grandmother and Scott’s mother; both passed away in 2013 so it’s a bittersweet reminder of these two amazingly strong women. In planning our wedding, Scott and I wanted two different-feeling experiences for the ceremony and reception. Our ceremony was personal, heartfelt, and a little whimsical with huge purple balloons lining the aisles and non-traditional music. Scott and I wrote (and cried through) our own vows and chose to incorporate a traditional handfasting to symbolize our union.

We worked together to make our invitations really set the stage for our day. The theme I was going for was “urban purple glam” and the Knitting Factory was a perfect venue for us as they really put the time and effort into making the space look exactly like we wanted. It was amazing to see the vision I had in my head translated into real life, not to mention the fact that we were able to celebrate the day with so many close friends and family (some of whom traveled long distances to be with us). Being an artist at heart, I made a lot of the details including chalkboard signage, a monogram art piece, a huge wall quote and a paper chain link installation behind our sweetheart table. We dined on short ribs and salmon, drank some awesome craft beer (among other things) and danced the night away as Eclectic Approach put on a fantastic show for us!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to some of the best vendors Spokane has to offer. Everything from flowers to desserts to wedding coordination to (obviously) photography was phenomenal and many of our professional relationships turned into friendships. The marquee outside the Bing said “best day ever!” and it definitely was. Scott and I are so thankful for everyone who put their time, effort, and energy into making our day so special and full of love.

Maureen & Scott Engaged!!

Scott & I would both like to sincerely thank Al Gore for “inventing the internet,” since the two of us met through online dating. It was a perfect time in our lives as I had grown weary of bad first dates, and Scott had become sick of wading through the plethora of girls that were not exactly his style (to put it kindly). I messaged him first, and we chatted a bit before setting up a first date at a cool local brewery. Despite the fact that he lived an hour away, Scott was on time & I was a good 15-20 minutes late, rolling in with an apology & a smile; it’s a good thing he thought I was cute and kept me around. Not wanting the date to end, we got some coffee and took a walk along the river. We laughed together as the local band playing music outside changed their tunes from normal to screamo as the night wore on and all the families went home. We sat & talked for hours that night and haven’t stopped since. I sent him home with a kiss and from then on, we have been inseparable.

The months we spent dating long-distance and spending every waking minute together on weekends passed in a blur and eventually Scott moved in with me and we bought an adorable little corgi named Rex. I am an artist at heart and am emotional and totally free-spirited. Scott balances me by being level-headed, laid-back and logical. The best analogy I’ve ever heard for a relationship came from a friend of a friend who is also an artist. He told me that he’s a balloon, flying wild and free while his wife grounds him by holding onto his string. “All these years,” he said “and she just keeps holding on. For my sake, I hope she never lets go!” I’m so glad Scott & I found each other. The constant laughter echoing throughout the rooms of our home is pure affirmation that this is the man I’m meant to build a life with. For my part, I hope he’s still holding onto my balloon string for many, many, many years to come.

Kate & Joe at Fox Theater

We wanted our wedding to be meaningful and to reflect the five years we spent together. Our first real date was at the Fox Theater to see Ben Folds play with the Spokane Symphony on October 18, 2009. Before Joe proposed, I learned the five year anniversary of that first date fell on a Saturday in one of the most beautiful times of the year. Fortunately, the Fox was available to host our wedding on that date and solidify it as our most important anniversary. We absolutely love the venue and embraced the Art Deco style for most aspects of the wedding. We had nearly two years to plan, make decorations, and have fun celebrating every step. It was a truly memorable time and we are so thankful to all of our friends and family for celebrating our love with us.

Brittany & Jordan Engaged!!

The Story of How We Met. (Written partly by Brittany, but mostly by her friend, Michelle)

Jordan and I have a long history…of sorts. As awkward preteens, we shared a middle school; we walked the same halls and sat in the same lunchroom. You would think that we would have been drawn together then, like moths to a flame. But alas, that’s not what destiny had in store. In fact, it wouldn’t be for another 12 years that we actually said our first hellos.

After moving back to Spokane in 2012 to finish grad school, I found myself working at my previous employer where I spent the majority of my college summers. It was here, in 2007, that I met my coworker and friend, Michelle. Being older (she has been holding steady at 29 for some time now), and wiser she schooled me in the joys of finding Mr. Right. We talked about “knowing when you know” and letting destiny lead. That being said, she also said sometimes destiny needs a push and asked if I would be interested in meeting a friend and coworker of her husband’s. She (being the absolute genius she is [yes, she is helping to write this]) swore up and down that we were perfect for each other!

Meanwhile, Michelle’s husband, Kaylen, was mentoring Jordan in the same manner. Of course, when I say mentoring, I mean he shared with Jordan the important pieces of information needed when tediously working on pairing soul mates…. “Dude, you should meet this chick. She is hot, fun and available. Let’s all get drinks.” Such a valiant effort. Oh well, it worked.

Jordan and I met in January of 2013 under the eyes, scrutiny and pressure of a whole gaggle of our friends. Our quiet conversations and awkward interactions were on display for the whole group to witness…some even took pictures. No matter, the setup worked. We clicked, and destiny kicked in.

We had our first official date a few days later, and after that, we were pretty much inseparable. I guess, when you find your other half, that’s the way it goes.

We sometimes wonder where we would be today had we met 12 years ago over a pre-algebra book or in a shared homeroom. Would destiny have rolled out the same way? Quite possibly, but it’s probably best this way. After all, tween marriage is such a cliché.

Erik and I lived together for five years before we got married. We built a good life and loving partnership during that time, and felt a commitment to protect and nurture that for the rest of our lives. On a beautiful day in mid-September, with our families and our friends gathered around us, nothing – and, of course, everything – changed in the most wonderful way.

We will always cherish certain memories from our wedding day. Our accidental first look when the elevator doors opened to reveal shock on both our faces. Circling with my beautiful bridesmaids before walking down the aisle and knowing that I’m joining a very lucky club of happy wives. Feeling so much love from our guests as they applauded our first kiss as husband and wife. Hearing my one-hundred-and-one year old grandmother say “there has never been a happier grandma ever!” and my father calling my new husband “a good man” as he officially welcomed Erik into the family. Dancing under twinkle lights with my handsome groom, and knowing that we have a lifetime of memories still to create together.

Erik and I are filled with much love and gratitude from this very special day.

A special thank you to our parents and family for all of your help to make our wedding dreams come true! This day is truly one to remember and we are forever thankful for your love, support, and encouragement. We love you!

Amanda and Eric’s story began in the summer of 2010. Amanda had just finished her first year of teaching in Deer Park and was enjoying her summer working with kids and spending time with friends at her family’s lake cabin. During her first year of teaching, her principal, Michele, told Amanda about her step son who was a firefighter. Michelle said that her step son was really sweet, but he lived in Yakima, and so Amanda didn’t think much of it. Eric was working in Union Gap as a fireman but made several trips to visit friends and family in Spokane, and over time, he began to pursue a job there.
While Amanda had originally dismissed Michele’s attempts at matchmaking, a short time later, the two met each other online. Amanda was a little bit nervous about going out with her principal’s step son, and she was really hoping that it would go well so things would not get awkward at work!
Fortunately, the two immediately hit it off. After a few weeks of exchanging emails and phone calls, Eric asked Amanda on their first date. Eric took Amanda to one of her favorite restaurants, Twigs, for drinks and appetizers. They talked for hours until the sun set and Eric drove her home. Amanda knew there was something special about Eric. Eric was eager to see Amanda again, and a few days later, he called to make a dinner date at the Wine Cellar in Coeur d’ Alene. Their connection continued to grow, and that night they had their first kiss on the front porch of her apartment.
Amanda and Eric’s relationship continued to grow and they withstood the test of being long-distance for a year. A job opened up in Spokane, and Eric was able to move back to start his career as a Spokane Firefighter. During the next three years, Amanda and Eric’s relationship developed even more through traveling together, having fun, and experiencing new adventures. On trips to San Diego, Florida, Vegas, and Seahawks games, they created lasting memories together. Eric taught Amanda how to water ski and snow ski, he took her camping for the first time, and taught her how to Salmon fish. Through all of these adventures, Amanda learned to trust Eric, and she fell in love. Eric loved how Amanda was so kind, passionate about kids and teaching, and he loved that she was so faithful with her friendships. He thought she was beautiful, both inside and out.
After Amanda and Eric watched the Christmas tree lighting at the Coeur d’ Alene resort last year. Eric got down on one knee and asked Amanda to be his wife. Of course she said “YES!” Eric then took her to dinner at the Wine Cellar where their love story began. Amanda felt like the luckiest girl in the world and now we are happily married!!

Because of Lord Jesus’ amazing plan, we were brought together despite of the fact that we are from two different countries. The journey of learning to love another person is not an easy one. We argued and fought, laughed and cried, and endured long distance between us. Yet because the faithfulness of God, we learned to be faithful to each other.

We are thankful for the love and grace from our Heavenly Father, vividly expressed through families, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. As His children, we come daily to enjoy the love of the Father. And we are certain there is abundant richness yet for us to discover and receive.
