Holly & Andy Engaged!

When people asked us how we met, I sometimes jokingly tell them that we met in Paris – it just sounds more romantic that way. The truth is that we met on Eharmony.com. I’m not sure why meeting online has a bad connotation to it, because it really shouldn’t, especially in our case. Regardless of how a couple meets, I think the important thing is that they do eventually find each other – and what happens from that point on is where the romantic begins and a love story is made.

I distinctly remember the first time I saw Holly, even her picture. It was the day after Thanksgiving, 2014, but this particular Friday wasn’t black at all. I was sitting in the big recliner chair in the living room of my sister’s house, sipping on a cup of morning coffee. I opened my e-mail to find that I had a new message from EHarmony with a new “match”. I skeptically opened the e-mail. After looking over her profile, and reading what she had written about herself and what she was looking for in life, and in a partner, I was immediately interested. I know it sounds a little clichéd, but I truly had a special feeling about her from the very start. I connected with what she had written, and liked everything about her, even her name, “Holly”. It didn’t take me long to muster up the courage to send her a note. I remember my heart beating fast as I sent the message and crossed my fingers that she would respond.

To my delight, she responded quickly, and after a few e-mails back and forth and a phone conversation or two, we agreed to meet in person. Our first date went well, and despite an awkward goodbye on my part, she luckily agreed to see me again. At the end of our second date, I kissed her for the first time, and we laughed together as she told me that I looked just like Andersen Copper and she’d never kissed someone famous before. After that, date number three lead into date number four, and I quickly began to fall in love with this beautiful Spanish Teacher from Spokane. I remember visiting my family shortly after we had started dating and describing Holly to them. They’ve told me since then that it was very evident just how special Holly was to me, even at that time.

At the 4-month mark we started planning a trip to Italy together, knowing full well that it would be the first big test of our relationship. As Holly always says, if you really want to see if you’re meant to be with someone, take an international trip with them. We ended up having a magical time together.

Our relationship only continued to blossom and grow stronger with each coming day, and on a warm sunlit day this past October, while on a walk through the Rose Garden in Manito Park, I asked Holly if she would do me the greatest honor of my life; would she to marry me?

Holly is my best friend, confidant, and sole-mate. She supports me and makes me a better man every day. I trust and respect her deeply. She is smart and engaging, caring, and strong. The size of her heart is only matched by her breathtakingly beauty. We share similar values and have similar life goals. And as basic as it sounds, we simply enjoy spending time with one another. She is the love of my life, and I pinch myself every day just to remind me of how lucky I am to have her in my life.

I was recently asked when was the exact moment that you knew Holly was the right woman for you. I struggled to answer the question because I don’t think there was an exact moment. I truly had a special feeling about her from the very beginning, and I approached our relationship with an open heart. I therefore don’t think it was a singular moment of realization that she was the one for me, but a gradual deepening on my feelings for her. I’ve known for a longtime, from early on, that I loved her, and that she was the woman I would gladly choose, amongst all others, to spend the rest of my life with.

Megan & Ian Engaged!!

“She is delightfully chaotic; a beautiful mess. Loving her is a splendid adventure.”
If there were a quote that could encompass Megan, this is it. We met after she she left NY and dancing on her toes. She has had me on my toes every since. Although it is sometimes painful, it is worth it. She is my world.

Ian

“Maybe some girls are not meant to be tamed. Maybe they are supposed to run wild until they find someone, just as wild, to run with.” Ian has somehow managed to calm me, mature me, support me, grow with me, and stabilize me all the while, running wild with me. 11 years later, he is still in many ways an enigma to me. I suspect he is doing this on purpose to bother me, but it turns out I quite like it. I am beyond lucky to have this wonderful man by my side.

Stacie and Shane

Stacie and Shane
Spokane, Washington
Dating for almost 9 years, wedding in September 2016

Chapter 1: First Impressions
Stacie: Shane and I worked at a restaurant together for a couple of years before we actually started dating. I always thought he was super cute and had a secret crush on him.

Shane: I thought Stacie was gorgeous and way out of my league.

Chapter 2: Coupledom
Stacie: We ran in the same circle of friends/coworkers so when I turned 24 I invited him out for my birthday.

Shane: I was stoked that she asked me to hang out with her outside of work, even if it was a group setting.

Stacie: A few days later, we went out for coffee and after that just never really stopped hanging out.

Chapter 3: The Proposal
Stacie: Shane and I go to Seattle every year for my birthday. On this particular trip Shane told me that he found a cool park for us to check out.

Shane: We get to this park (where I have an elaborate proposal planned) and it’s completely unromantic. We’re basically tromping through mud and mosquitos are attacking us at every whim. Stacie wanted to leave.

Stacie: In my defense, I had no idea what was going on.

Shane: She actually thwarted my efforts again later that night when I tried to pop the question as we looked out over the Seattle skyline.

Stacie: I didn’t know! It seemed like a sketchy part of town, and I thought we should get out of there.

Shane: Third times a charm. The next morning we went to Pike Place Market, and I asked a random couple to take our picture. When they started snapping, I got down on one knee.

Stacie: I was completely shocked and caught off guard. You think you know someone after that many years of dating and they still manage to surprise you. It was really sweet.

Chapter 4: Ever After
Stacie and Shane: We are both super excited to be getting married and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Jessica & Zach at Davenport Hotel

So after Zach’s amazingly romantic proposal! It was down to business to plan our dream wedding! We started with setting a time and location. Since we were both teachers we felt that a winter (December) wedding would be ideal since we would always have that time of year off to go on a mini-honeymoon. Since most of Zach’s family would have to travel for the wedding, we chose a location (Spokane, WA) with a larger airport than Pullman or Lewiston. When thinking about a venue for the wedding reception, the first place that came to mind was the Historic Davenport Hotel. We had stayed there the previous December after Zach returned from celebrating Christmas with his family in Wisconsin. Seeing how breathtaking the Davenport Hotel was when it was decorated for the Christmas season, simplified our decision. We chose the Marie Antoinette Ballroom, since it had a special place in our hearts. We had shared a dance there when we were exploring the hotel one evening. We were so happy to find out that the room and the date that we wanted were available! We were able to have the ceremony at the beautiful St. Matthew Lutheran Church, which is about five miles north of the Historic Davenport Hotel.

After arranging the location of the ceremony and reception, was the whirlwind of finding the perfect dress, the best photographer, the tastiest wedding cake, the sexiest tuxes, the funnest DJ, the most beautiful flowers, and finishing up all the other details. Although it seemed that every weekend was consumed in preparing for the wedding, preparations went by fast, where everything seemed to fall into place.

After 8 long months of planning, our BIG DAY finally arrived! December 19th, 2015 was a day that we will remember for the rest of our lives. Not only because it was a day that we married our best friend, it was a beautiful day, filled with joy, friends, family, love, God, and even a few snowflakes. We couldn’t have imagined anything more wonderful!

Jessica & Brian Engaged!

Brian and Jessica believe destiny (or a mutual need of adult beverages) brought them together. Jessica was living in Puyallup, WA for a year finishing school, and Brian had lived in the area most of his life. They met on October 5, 2015 at Cheers Bar & Grill. Jessica mustered up the courage to make the first move and they ended up talking and laughing the night away, not knowing they would be inseparable from that day on. When Jessica graduated college, she moved back to her hometown of Spokane, WA. Brian made a huge sacrifice and left everything he knew to be with the woman he loved. Today, she works in her family’s business and he works at a machine shop as a welder/fabricator.

In March 2015, the two decided to hit the beaches of Hawaii for some much needed RnR. Jessica had no idea, but Brian was secretly scheming. There, on the beach surrounded by the gorgeous sunset, Brian proposed while friends stood by taking photos and videos. It couldn’t have been a more perfect proposal and kickoff to their vacation.

The couple dreams of travelling the world together someday. Their ultimate dream is to grow old together at a home in the countryside with room for all of their animals and hobbies.

Alex & Josh Engaged!

Josh and I met in the beginning of our junior year of high school. We were just 16 years old, I didn’t even have my license yet. It was truly love at first sight. We hung out together for the first time on October 1st, 2010, and have been inseparable ever since. During our junior year, Josh was in running start while I was at Lewis & Clark high school, and he ended up spending more time at LC with me then he did anywhere else. My teachers were always surprised if he wasn’t in class with me. Our senior year we both did running start at SFCC, and during that year we chose to attend college together at Central Washington University. Three years in, I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Accounting, and this spring, he will graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Administrative Management, and I will graduate with a Masters of Professional Accountancy. We have grown so much together over the years, and it has brought us closer every step of the way. I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else. He has taught me so much about myself and how strong of a person I can be. He is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me, and I thank God every day that he is mine.

Dana & James at St. Aloysuis Church and The Davenport Hotel

How We Met:

James and I both attended Gonzaga University. However, during our time there neither of us really crossed paths. I knew of him thru friends, but we never really connected. Although, I distinctly remember one night at our favorite local spot, Jack and Dans, locking eyes with him and thinking to myself that I would always remember that moment. I wasn’t sure why at the time, but I know now.

Years passed and I was living with his cousin, Maria Barnes, at the time. Maria and I decided to hit up the Fremont OctoberFEST. It was POURING that night. We bundled up in our rain jackets and hit the town. I was standing in the rain sipping on my beer and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and there was James. He said to me with a huge grin on his face, “Do you know who I am?” I replied, “Of course I know who are you… you’re James Solan”. He and I both smiled… I didn’t want it going to his head that I knew so I just played it off like, yeah yeah, I know who you are. He always says in that moment when I turned around all he saw was my face tucked in my rain jacket and my huge smile that stole his heart away.

From that little spark the rest is really history. We both flirted away for the next few months with lots of late nights filled with playing darts, singing karaoke, and late nights with our favorite girl Maria. He officially asked me out on Valentines Day 6 years ago. Thru the years we’ve been thru so much together, but with everything, it has always brought us closer.

It has been truly life changing meeting James. His zest for life, fun, and adventure is endless. His love for Gonzaga, family and friends has brought so much happiness into my life. He’s my best friend and I really can’t believe I get to have him by my side for the rest of my life. Jackpot!

Engagement Story:

It was a beautiful Christmas morning. I was with my family sipping coffee, enjoying the time just being home and having James with me. My Dad started mumbling something about how he forgot to put some items in the stockings and asked my mom to help him find the things upstairs. I didn’t think anything of it…this was typical parent behavior. So they headed upstairs…

James and I were sitting by the tree and he began to say some very sweet things about our relationship and what I meant to him. It seemed as though he was getting nervous about something, so to distract me he said, “Hey, which present are you most excited about?” I replied, “Well I don’t know. They are all still wrapped (duh), but I guess that one over there.” When I looked back at him he had the ring out and said, “How about spending the rest of your life with me?” From there, I basically started jumping up and down, exclaiming “Really? Really? Really??!!” I of course said yes and quickly asked, “Do my parents know?” Of course they did too. I went to go see them and there they were standing at the top of the stairs cheering and crying together. It was such a beautiful moment to share with them. I’ll always be so grateful to James for asking me in such a special place to me, my childhood home.
